Text Box: SOME INTERESTING NOTES ABOUT BOY TOY'S . . . .

The first call sign was LOWLAND 214 in the Civil Air Patrol.  The SCR522 was converted and during the process you learned how to "warp" a crystal with Comet.  The power supply is another story in itself.
While in the Air Force I got my first call, WA7ERR and the first rig was a Galaxy 300 loaded into a Tri-band vertical on top of the barracks at Nellis AFB.  I traded up in a year when a friend had a Drake TR-4 that he had on trade.  I kept the TR-4 for several years until I went over seas to SE Asia.
After the service the first job was "HFC" . . . "Ham 'n' for Cash".  This the operation of a long haul circuit from the Nevada test site to Amchitka, AK.  The TMS was a 10Kw DBS,SSB,FSK,AM, tunable 2-30MHz transmitter (left picture).  We had teletype, crypto, narrow band mux, and a bank of R-390 receivers.  Oh what toys . . .
During the 70's I owned and operated a 2-way radio business.  It was hard to keep a hobby that was similar to work . . . and I let the WA7ERR lapse.
In the mid 70's I got the First Phone . . . finally, only to have it down graded a year later . . . but I had it anyway.  I got interested in Ham radio again and got the WB8SMH call.  My interest was in the "round tables" of discussion on the 1Kw AM rigs and later turned to 6M and 2M.
The days when I joined RCA as a field engineer on television transmitters presented more interest in the world above 50MHz and power levels in the 100Kw's.
Once again I got interested in HF, put up an all band vertical and listened intently on my ICOM 735.  During this time since I had spent many years in television the vanity calls became available and I received the K8DTV.  This one will take me to the "silent key" status someday.
