ATSC-MH

ATSC-MH or Mobile Handheld is the new frontier for digital television.  The information society is hungry for input and this is one method of supplying that demand of the "on-the-go" consumer.

Not unlike the ancient Romans flocking to the Coliseum and us in the time of electronic information systems, first with radio and then with pictures . . . television, ingesting mass amount of data on a daily basis to know as much as possible about our neighborhood, region, and the world.  The handheld market presents a multitude of possible methods of delivery and competitive opportunity for those that are positioned technically and financially to take care of the fantastic new frontier.

There are several players already in the field, but efforts are lacking in technical advance, marketing, and sales at this point.  What we will present on the site will be simply method of entering into the market, proper technical management, and a simple method of providing infrastructure for future expansion without having to reinvent the wheel each time.

The MH market provides diverse advertising opportunity, public service as good stewards, and under the right planning and technical implementation, a good sound investment with excellent returns for many years.

A sound business plan for the mobile handheld market is the expansion to less expensive rates in the market, making television more competitive with cable and newspaper rates.  The market will not have more advertising dollars, but the MH system provides the advantage of a larger penetration into the market.  Content on each channel should be in the open providing a rebroadcast of local channels and other content specific to the community served.

The ATSC system "does not mobile" well according to reports, but I can remember when other problems through my 5 decades in the industry we encountered, the technology eventually won the day.  I don't like to listen to "nah sayers" they only provide obstacles.  Thomas Edison once said after working on the light bulb . . . "I now know 2000 ways not to make a light bulb" and carried on till success was illuminating.  People with vision, persistence, and oh yes . .  the "bank roll" can win this day of ATSC-MH.

It is also said that a SFN doesn't work well either . . . well the natural response to that is simple . . . use terrain shielding where possible along with special antenna design.  This is an old translator trick from past history.  With GPS locked oscillators and timing, coupled with proper antenna modeling and terrain shielding . . . this should eliminate much of the problems, until someone comes up with a better solution.  "The General" . . . Sarnoff at RCA hammered on his chief engineer for sometime to come up with a method of resolving "ghosting" in the city environments and . . . circular polarization was born.

The opportunity exists for those that have the vision and willing to forge into a future technology.  As a value added reseller (VAR) we can be of assistance to you in this project to design infrastructure, distribution, and marketing, give us a call.

Look for further details as this portion of the site will be up dated as information is available.
